Prescriptions
Request a repeat prescription
Please allow 72 hours to collect a prescription from the surgery, or 5 working days to collect from the pharmacy. You may pick up your prescription from the surgery after 12pm or, preferably, in the afternoon Monday to Friday.
To avoid errors, we ask receptionists not to take prescription requests over the telephone.

Your pharmacy can also order your medication on your behalf. This saves you time and unnecessary visits to the Practice. Please contact the Pharmacy of your choice for more information if you wish to use this service.
In Person
You can order in person by returning the right-hand half of a previous prescription for the required medications
Alternatively, you can submit a handwritten request. You may also write out an order for someone else, providing you include the patient's name and date of birth and requested medication.
By Post
You can post your prescription slip or written request to us at the Practice
You must include a stamped addressed envelope for return by post if you will not be able to pick up your prescription from the Surgery. Please allow at least seven days if requesting your medication by post.
Medication Reviews
Patients on repeat medication will be asked to see a doctor, nurse practitioner or practice nurse at least once a year to review these regular medications and notification should appear on your repeat slip.
Please ensure that you book an appropriate appointment to avoid unnecessary delays to further prescriptions.
Repeat Dispensing
If you, or someone you care for, use the same medicines regularly, you may be able to benefit from repeat dispensing from your pharmacist. This means you won't have to visit the surgery every time you need more medicines.
Urgent Requests for Prescriptions
Due to an increasing number of requests for prescriptions to be issued urgently, we have had to review how we handle these requests in order to provide safe and consistent service to all of our patients. Requests for prescriptions outside the normal prescription protocol impacts significantly on both GP and administration time, meaning there is less availability to a GP for other patients and a higher risk of a prescribing error occurring.
Therefore, if patients ask for an urgent repeat prescription they will need to give a reason for their request. If the medication is a controlled drug and has been lost or stolen, they may be required to contact the police and provide a crime number before we can issue a prescription.
We will not issue urgent prescriptions for items that can be bought over the counter, or for non-essential medication, and the patient may be informed that the medication will be processed following the normal prescription process, therefore available for dispensing by the pharmacy within 5 days. If the medication cannot be missed, the item will be issued as required.
As a guide, we will not issue the following medications urgently:
- Anything that can be purchased over the counter, for example Paracetamol, Ibuprofen, low dose Co-Codamol etc;
- Omeprazole, Lansoprazole, Peptic, Gaviscon, Ranitidine;
- Prescriptions following discharge from Hospital and Out-Patient clinics;
- Steroids for rescue pack replacement not immediately required ;
- Sleep aids such as Hydroxyzine, Promethazine, Zopiclone, Zolpidem;
- Ear sprays & drops;
- All creams;
- Cholesterol medications;
- Rescue antibiotics not immediately required;
- Oral nutrition supplements;
- Laxatives;
- Blood pressure medications;
- Thyroxine;
- Inhalers (NOT including Salbutamol or Terbutaline);
- Antihistamines;
- Dressings;
- Erectile Dysfunction medications.
We apologise for any inconvenience this may cause. This step has been implemented as a necessity to protect GPs’ time for more clinically urgent matters. However, please do not hesitate to contact the surgery if you have any queries or concerns.
